product category

1 Strip - a product less than 0.1875 inches (4.75mm) thick and 24 inches (610mm) wide.

2 Sheet - a product with a thickness of less than 0.1875 inches (4.75mm) and a width equal to or greater than 24 inches (610mm).

3 Plate A product with a thickness of not less than 0.1875 inches (4.75mm) and a width of not less than 10 inches (254mm). and the width is greater than 5 times the thickness, this specification applies to plates with a thickness not greater than 4.00 inches (101.60 mm).

4 bar - round and flat bars of diameter or thickness from 0.1875 inches (4.76mm) to 4.00 inches (101.60mm) (other sizes and shapes by special order).

5 forging bar

Bars produced by the forging method as described in 4 may be supplied in the hot-worked state.

6 Wire A round, flat or other shaped product less than 0.1875 inch (4.75mm) in diameter.

7 Other - Other forms and shapes, including tubing, may be supplied by agreement between buyer and supplier.

Mechanical properties of annealed bars, wires and forgings

A gauge length of 2in or 4D or 4W shall be used when measuring the elongation of materials with a diameter (D) or width (W) greater than or equal to 0.063in (1.6mm). The test results must report the gauge length. Material extension less than 0.063in (1.6mm) in diameter or thickness

The elongation measurement method can be ignored. As an alternative, the ISO 6892-related gauge lengths may be used when agreed upon by the supplier and buyer. (5.65 times the square root of So, where So refers to the original cross-sectional area.) Gage length

Should be reported with the elongation value. L=Longitudinal; LT=Long Lateral; ST=Short Lateral.

B only applies to bars and forgings. L=longitudinal; LT=long transverse; ST=short transverse. For round bars, the short transverse and long transverse tests are the same, so only one transverse test is required.

c The transverse requirements in Table 1 apply only to products for which tensile specimens not less than 2.50 in (63.5 mm) in length can be obtained.

Mechanical Properties of Annealed Sheet, Strip and Thick Plate

A gauge length of 2in or 4W should be used when measuring the elongation of materials with a width (W) greater than or equal to 0.063in (1.6mm). The test results must report the gauge length. The method for determining the elongation of materials less than 0.063in (1.6mm) thick is negligible.

As an alternative, the ISO 6892-related gauge lengths may be used when agreed upon by the supplier and buyer. (5.65 times the square root of So, where So refers to the original cross-sectional area.) The gauge length should be reported along with the elongation value.

L=Longitudinal; LT=Long Lateral; ST=Short Lateral.

B only applies to thick plates. L=longitudinal; LT=long transverse; ST=short transverse.

The C-bend test is suitable for sheet and strip products.

DT is equal to the thickness of the bend test specimen. Refer to Test Method E290. Bend tests are not available for material thicker than 0.187in (4.75mm).

E The transverse requirements of Table 2 apply only to products for which tensile specimens of not less than 2.50 in (63.5 mm) in length can be obtained.
