Titanium Pipe Stub End

Brief Introduction

Usually, titanium pipe stub ends are used with ASME B16.5 carbon steel backing flanges (lap joint flanges) in pipeline to minimize the cost while maintaining excellent corrosion resistance to fluid. The titanium stub end may be furnished in short pattern or long pattern in accordance with ASME B16.9. The material covers Grade 1, Grade 2, Grade 3, Grade 5, Grade 7, Grade 9, Grade 12, Grade 16 titanium and its alloys, which shall be made in accordance with ASTM B363. For sizes NPS 6 and smaller, the titanium stub ends will be furnished in seamless type (ASTM B861); for sizes larger than NPS 6, the titanium stub ends will be furnished in welded type (ASTM B265).

Production details

Stub ends are available in three different types, named “Type A”, “Type B” and “Type C”:

1. The first type (A) is manufactured and machined to match standard lap joint backing flange (the two products have to be used in combination). The mating surfaces have an identical profile to permit a smooth loading of the flare face

2. Stub ends type B are have to be used with standard slip-on flanges

3. Type C stub ends can be used either with lap joint or slip-on flanges and are manufactured from pipes

Stub ends are available in two different patterns:

1. the short pattern, called MSS-A stub ends

2. the long pattern, called ASA-A stub ends (or ANSI length stub end)
